Bec Hewitt is not pleased with her son’s development into a potential tennis star.
The 40-year-old former star of Home and Away is apparently under pressure from son Cruz’s ambition to emulate his 42-year-old father, tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt.
Lleyton and Bec are rumoured to be at differences about the family’s future because Lleyton might end up supporting their 14-year-old son on the international tennis circuit.
Bec is reportedly worried about what she will do with the rest of their family at home if Lleyton and Cruz join the professional circuit, according to New Idea.
The former soap star struggles with change because she is a creature of routine, and a family friend claims that she feels pressured to “keep things running smoothly back home” because her husband and kid are away.
The Rafael Nadal tennis academy in Majorca, Spain, accepted the Australian tennis champion’s kid last month.
In order to support the young Hewitt’s sporting dreams, the family also relocated from Melbourne to Sydney and then to the Gold Coast earlier.
The teenager has long harboured tennis aspirations, and in 2021, the Hewitt family upped stakes from Melbourne and spent just over $4 million on a prestigious Burleigh Heads property on the Gold Coast.
According to Daily Mail Australia, the family’s ‘Cruz Mission’ is to advance Cruz’s budding tennis career, which was the driving force behind the move to the Gold Coast.
The Hewitt family left Melbourne’s erratic weather and Covid lockdowns for the bright, sunny Gold Coast, where Cruz had started taking serious training seriously, according to local sources in the close-knit tennis world.
Cruz’s Wimbledon champion father Lleyton is believed to have been lured to the Coast’s several expansive tennis facilities, which feature a variety of grass, clay, and hardcourt surfaces, as well as the tens of millions of dollars’ worth of “champion factories” like the KDV tennis academy in Carrara.
The cutting-edge facility, which has 20 courts, hotel rooms, gyms, a swimming pool, and a driving range, will act as a temporary base for Team Hewitt while Cruz advances through the international junior ranks.
According to tennis insiders, Cruz is “as good as or better” than his well-known father at the same age and is a true future superstar.
Cruz’s relocation to the Gold Coast, according to a local tennis insider, “is very much a sign that the Hewitts are getting progressively more serious about Cruz’s potential as a future world top-ten player.”
The weather and surfaces are crucial here. Cruz may train all year long on a variety of surfaces, including grass, hard courts, and clay.
Ten clay courts, the maximum available in one facility in the state, are available at KDV Sport, one of only two tennis facilities in Queensland.
Cruz, who calls himself #ClayDog on his own Instagram and has already won a significant junior title on clay, is reportedly becoming into something of a surface expert.
Cruz and Lleyton have undoubtedly been hitting here, and Cruz has participated in a few tournaments in the past, according to a KDV employee who spoke to The Mail Online on the condition of anonymity.
Cruz reportedly also enrolled in the high-performance programme at the facility.
Mia, 17, and Ava, 12, are Lleyton and Bec’s daughters. They were married in 2005.
