Home and Away’s Sophie Dillman shares her support for menstrual leave in the workplace: ‘If it were men they wouldn’t have to work’

Sophie Dillman of Home and Away has lent her support to the drive for’menstrual leave’ in the workplace.

The 29-year-old actress told The Daily Telegraph on Thursday that women should be given paid time off for period pain.

The actress told the tabloid, ‘We didn’t ask for periods, let alone period discomfort.’

Sophie continued by saying that women are taught to ‘grin and bear it,’ but that things would be different if males had periods.
If guys had periods, they wouldn’t have to work those days and would be paid for those days off every month,’ she told the publication.

Sophie also disclosed that she has endometriosis, and that her Summer Bay coworkers have always been understanding of her situation.

‘[I] bet you any money that if men had periods, they would not have to work those days and they would be paid those days leave every single month,’ Sophie said. Here on set  

‘Everyone will hold my hot water bottle between takes, wardrobe is understanding of my need to change my costume because I’m bloated, and people will allow me to sit if I need to,’ she said.

Sophie says it’s an honour to be nominated for a Silver Logie in the Most Popular Actress category at this year’s Logies.

Sophie described the other women nominated in the category as “some of the biggest names in Australian television.”

‘I never imagined I’d be able to meet these people, never alone have my name listed among them, so the nomination is actually the big deal,’ she said.

Sophie said it was an honour to just get nominated for a Logie this year after playing the character of Ziggy Astoni in Summer Bay since June, 2017. (L) Patrick O’Connor

Sophie is up against Deborah Mailman for Total Control, comedian Kitty Flanagain for Fisk, and Ada Nicodemou from Home and Away.

‘The Logies is building up to be one of the year’s most important events.

For the first time in seven years, Rogue Traders will take the stage. Calum Scott, a British singer, will also perform.

Lachie Gill, the winner of The Voice Australia, will perform his first single Wasted Time to kick off the day’s entertainment.
