Spoiler alert: this year’s Home and Away season finale isn’t on the list of fans’ favourites. After the final episode of 2022 finished on a blazing cliffhanger, viewers were divided, with many claiming it was the most “disappointing” and “underwhelming” finale ever.
Every year, Home and Away promises a more tense, exciting, and suspenseful conclusion than ever before. Think about natural disasters, fires, car accidents, additional car accidents, yet additional car accidents, shootings, and more. A number of Facebook users named the 2014 bus crash episode as one of the best season finales for the programme, proving that it was indeed a fan favourite. In that episode, Kyle Pryor’s character, Nate, was kidnapped by Sophie Taylor (Bridgette Sneddon), who then drenched him in gasoline. Then, after swerving their vehicle into the path of a bus carrying passengers—among them a pregnant Ricky (Bonnie Sween)—Nate caused a significant rollover. A third vehicle, driven by Darryl Braxton (Steve Peacocke), who had just learned he was going to be a father to a baby boy, was also involved in the collision.
The mineshaft incident from the 2003 season finale has become a popular season climax, despite the fact that many fans expressed a desire for less drama and more happy endings after the 2022 finale. In the 2003 episode, the Sutherlands were nearly buried alive after becoming trapped in a mine that had collapsed. Fans have been let down by Home and Away season finales before; many consider 2020 to be the worst of all time. The episode’s teaser trailers promised steamy one-night trysts, spilled family secrets, dangerous prison encounters, and romances; nevertheless, the actual finale disappointed viewers.
