Ray Meagher, a member of the soap opera Home and Away, has joined the long list of celebs who have commented on the demise of Neighbours.

The closing scenes for the soap opera’s final episode, which will air on August 1, were shot by the cast and crew on June 10.

After 37 years, the programme was cancelled after Channel 5 decided not to renew it for budgetary reasons.

Ray Meagher is among the renowned people who have expressed their rage about the show’s conclusion.

The actor, who is most known for playing Alf Stewart in the soap opera, described the circumstance as “devastating.”

He said, “It’s terribly sad,” in a statement to TV Tonight. In that genre, it paved the way. Sales to the BBC of five episodes each week were a first for a soap opera. Not just here but all across the world, they enjoyed tremendous success. The fact that it’s ended is just a disgrace.

Ray still wonders if history will repeat itself even though Home and Away isn’t going anywhere right now.

“I’ve always believed that even if our show were to fall into the hands of total fools, it would take three years to kill it,” the author once said.

Neighbours’ final episode is just a few weeks away, but the popular soap opera is still popular with viewers.

The Australian soap opera episode that aired on Friday (June 17) garnered more viewers than any other programme on Channel 5 that day, according to UK TV ratings analyst Liam Hamilton.

A respectable 520,000 viewers checked in for its 1:45 pm luncheon broadcast, while another 350,000 watched the 6 pm broadcast.

It’s also important to keep in mind that these are only overnight watching data, so the total will rise sharply if recordings, catch-up programming, and My5 streams are included.
