Home and Away actress Angelina Thomson has been hailed as a role model for Polynesian women and opened up about representing her community on the Australian soap
Star of Home and Away Angelina Thomson spoke candidly about how proud she is to represent her neighborhood on television.
Since 2022, the 26-year-old actress has portrayed Kirby Aramoana, and she has grown to become an inspiration to young Polynesian women. The soap star told Stuff, “Being a Polynesian woman on an Australian soap opera is huge for me.”
“I never got to see it when I was growing up.” The actor was ecstatic to be allowed to speak in her mother’s tongue on the soap opera because her mother is from the Cook Islands.
The celebrity said she is amazed by the nice feedback she gets on social media, which she says happens frequently. “My family is messaging me and leaving comments on it on social media, and they are all so proud of me for being able to represent our little island. It is really amazing for me.” That is really meaningful,” she said.
Angelina went on, “There’s a part of me that believes, ‘I’m just doing my job,’ when people do notice it. Why you’re noticing it so much is beyond me.
“But I also understand how important representation is because I know when I see Polynesians in the industry – which isn’t very often at all – how inspiring that is for me.”
The actress made a suggestion that further shows would delve into Kirby’s background, but for now, the focus is on her choice to leave Lyrik and seek a solo career. She had a falling out with her previous bandmates, Remi (Adam Rowland) and Eden (Stephanie Panozzo), as a result of the transfer, which caused her great sadness.
During Thursday’s episode (November 16), Kirby’s solo launch approaches, however she is more focused on the absence of her friends. Eden and Remi walk in as Kirby is performing, and she feels so much better about herself because she didn’t go.
After her performance, Forrest (Elijah Williams) pulls Kirby away from her friends to do interviews, but she refuses. In a shocking turn of events, Kirby tells Forrest she wants to return to Lyrik.
Despite Forrest’s threats about fulfilling her contract, Kirby tells the rest of the band that she wants to reunite. While Eden and Theo (Matt Evans) are thrilled, Remi tells them that as far as he’s concerned, Lyrik is dead.
