Fans of the General Hospital love a good coming back. With Marcus Taggert's recent comeback, many are speculating who could go back to the show next. For some fans, a ghost appearance a couple of years ago wasn't enough and they want Courtney Matthews back in town. Alicia Leigh Willis, who portrays the character, gave an interview not too long ago in which she spoke about her thoughts about returning full time.

The history of Courtney Matthews on ‘General Hospital

was first introduced in 2001 when she came right after her mother, Janine Matthews, into town. She soon learned that she had a half-brother, mobster Sonny Corinthos and that her biological father was Port Charles resident Mike Corbin. Sonny was extremely protective over Courtney, leading her to a romance with A.J. Sonny's rival, Quartermaine. Sonny had custody of A.J.'s son, Michael Corinthos, and sleeping with Courtney was part of A.J.'s plan to get back to Sonny before he realized that he loved her actually. The two ended up splitting, through turmoil in their relationship.

She also had a relationship with enforcer Sonny and brother Jason Morgan, A.J.'s brother. She has married Jasper "Jax" Jacks after they broke up. Their marriage began to fizzle once Jax became closer to Elizabeth Webber, who once would be a surrogate to them. Afterward, she started a relationship with Nikolas Cassadine. She became pregnant and did not know if Jax or Nikolas were the father. Helena Cassadine, the grandmother of Nikolas, was trying to kidnap the baby as heir to the Cassadine.

In 2006, Courtney died from complications caused by her and Nikolas's son, Spencer Cassadine's pregnancy. Courtney didn't tell Nikolas before she died that he was the father, and Jax knew the truth and raised Spencer as his own. Maxie Jones eventually found the actual results and gave them to her cousin, Robin Scorpio, who revealed the results of Spencer's baptism (then known as John).

Courtney's character is considered to be true love for Nikolas. Wills returned briefly as a ghost and appeared to Spencer in 2015.

What the actress says about a ‘General Hospital’ return

Last year Willis gave an interview with ABC Soaps in Depth about her thoughts on returning to show. Courtney's ghostly return in 2015 was due to a fan vote actually. "There was some sort of thing actually on Facebook where fans voted to bring back a character for a guest star or something like that. And they called me and they are like,' Oh, they voted to get you back.' And I was so excited because I had to go back and it was like a family reunion, "said the actress.

She added, "To see all those people I'd been working with for so many years. It was nice indeed. It was really nice to get to give those big hugs to everyone. I just loved to play Courtney. That has long been such a big part of my life. Even my family was engaged. When I got it, my entire family was really excited because they loved everyone I worked with there.

And although Courtney is dead on the show at the moment, we know that most deaths in the daytime soap opera are not real and that characters can return from the dead at any time. Willis is receptive to the opportunity. "I'd love to come back and work again with them. Yeah, if there ever came a chance I'd love that. It would be fun.

Last year, Willis narrowly missed a return to daytime television. She screened for a role on another soap opera but eventually failed to get the role. "That's got between me and another girl and the other girl. But she is a friend of mine so… But yeah, a couple of times I've definitely thrown my hat into the ring. You never know what it is like with the soaps. Everybody knows each other so when you go to the other soaps it's really nice, you usually see people you've worked in the past. It's just pretty cool.
