Evil Danny Hardcastle (Paul Usher) made a good impression on EastEnders when he last visited Walford. Still, the shady businessman is coming back again in the coming episodes, and he's got a pretty significant idea for Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden)—which could be a problem for the young man. Ben continues to struggle with his hearing loss, and Callum recommends that he learns sign language. Yet Ben laughs off his idea, and later finds himself frustrated when Danny shows up in Albert Square with an exciting proposal.
Determined to keep up appearances, Ben pretends he can understand what Danny is doing, and he's desperate to make sure the suspicious businessman doesn't get the wind out of his hearing loss. Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) intervenes, however, and— when Callum arrives to drive Ben to his appointment— Danny delivers something of an ultimatum, leaving Callum as a result.
Earlier, Ben receives a message that his surgery won't last for a few weeks, and he admits to Callum that the procedure may have serious complications. To ensure that Ben prevents any sort of tension, Callum tells him about Danny, which leads to Ben storming off.
Later, Ben hatches a plan to stay in control until he meets Danny, as Callum prepares for his police assessment— something he fails to do when he hears from Ruby (Louisa Lytton) that Ben is in the club. As a result, Callum arrives at the club— which doesn't impress Ben— but it quickly becomes apparent that he's there to help. Yet Danny soon discovers Callum's involvement with the police, threatening him with what causes Ben to come clean about his hearing
With everything gone pear-shaped, Ben lashes out at Callum and returns to the storm Is that the end of Danny? Or is he going to show up again?
