Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) made Chantelle's (Jessica Plummer) life a living nightmare in EastEnders, and he resorted to violence again in the second episode last night, leaving his wife in an incredibly lousy condition, and — in the upcoming episodes — learning the extent of her injuries, and feeling mortified as a result. After hearing that Mitch (Roger Griffiths) realized he had lost his work, at Chantelle Gray leaped to conclusions and exploded — carrying out the most brutal assault on his poor wife so far.
With the pressure of the situation with Whitney coming to him, he is setting out to rectify this in the upcoming episodes. However, Chantelle is doing her best to cover her injuries from him as she begins her new job at the call center of Kheerat (Jaz Deol).
Later in the week, however, Gray learns the extent of the injuries that he caused on Chantelle, and as a result, he is mortified.
He insists such a thing will not happen again, but Chantelle seems unconvinced as she stays cold with her husband. It wouldn't be the first time Gray told her he'd not only hurt her to do it again but would Chantelle get the support she needs?
Kheerat consequently comments on how impressed he concerns her work ethic, and Mitch (Roger Griffiths) gives her a helping hand as she tries to maintain the balance between home and work. He later learns, however, Gray's therapy card and the resulting Chantelle panics. Can Mitch maybe uncover the abuse committed by Gray?
