Sylvia Syms was honored by EastEnders after passing away at the age of 89.
The actress appeared four times over a three-year period, from 2007 to 2010, in the BBC One serial opera as Peggy Mitchell’s friend and dressmaker Olive Woodhouse.
The official EastEnders account posted a statement on social media saying, “We are terribly heartbroken to hear that Sylvia Syms has gone away.”
We are sending Sylvia’s family and friends our love and best wishes.
In the early hours of Friday (January 27), Sylvia passed away peacefully at Denville Hall, a care facility in London for those in the entertainment business.
The actress, who portrayed the Queen Mother in the 2006 film The Queen with Helen Mirren as Her Majesty, was described as having “had an extraordinary life” by her children.
Beatie and Ben Edney released the following statement to share the tragic news: “Our mother, Sylvia, passed away quietly this morning. She led a remarkable life and brought us happiness and laughter all the way to the end.

Over the years, Sylvia made appearances in a variety of TV series and movies, but she is arguably most remembered for her role as Sister Diana in the 1958 war film Ice Cold In Alex, which detailed the Western Desert battle in World War II.
In addition to playing three different characters in the BBC Daytime series Doctors, the Doctor Who actress has made appearances in Casualty and Holby City.
She played Mrs. Rawson in Gentleman Jack, which was her final TV performance.
