One of the most dramatic winter seasons yet for BBC’s EastEnders promises shocking turns and turns, including a Christmas murder whodunit.

Christmas 2023 on EastEnders is expected to be the least festive yet thanks to explosive storylines that include a whodunit winter murder mystery.

While Danny Dyer’s character Mick Carter made a dramatic exit last year when he vanished at sea, this year’s Christmas plot might feature a deadly fire, Matt Di Angelo’s return, and a dead body.

The BBC hasn’t confirmed the specifics of what to expect, but TV insiders claim that the iconic Albert Square venue Kathy’s café will burn down after a deadly fire consumes it.

In dramatic scenes, it is said that characters will be terrified for their lives as the fire spreads quickly throughout the building.

The soap opera has hinted that there will be significant fallout for certain Albert Square favorites.

There will also be discussion about what or who started the fire, which is thought to have been intentional.

Future episodes will feature Bernadette “Bernie” Taylor (Clair Norris) battling after the café’s fuse box blows.

Given that Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) lacked the funds to hire a professional to fix it, could this be what started the fire?

In a flashforward scene where Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy, Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner), and Suki (Balvinder Sopal) discovered a dead body at what appeared to be a Christmas party at the Queen Vic, the soap opera debuted a preview of its 2023 Christmas episode earlier this year.

The mystery man lies dead on the floor, and the women, all dressed in black, are seen in the pub looking shocked.

The group remains mostly silent as Sharon, wearing a bloodied wedding dress, leans over the body and declares, “He’s dead,” while Stacey is covered in blood and Denise is holding a broken Champagne bottle.

With Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdry), Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara), Theo Hawthorne (William Ellis), and Dean Wicks (Matt DiAngelo) among the candidates, fans’ speculation about who the Christmas casualty might be has reached a fever pitch.

Aside from the mystery, there will also be a shocking return.

It’s thought that Dean is coming back to the soap opera. In a backstage TikTok video, actor Matt Di Angelo’s comeback was inadvertently revealed by one of his co-stars.

Viewers noticed Matt, 36, in the video’s background. This is in response to viewer conjecture that Linda’s former brother-in-law and rapist, Dean, would return for the Christmas whodunit.

Although the return of Dean has not yet been confirmed by the soap opera, future spoilers indicate Linda, who is supported by her family, will be shocked by what she finds.
