Recently, Peter Barlow of Coronation Street has been the subject of an investigation regarding Stephen Reid’s death. Reid ran him down because he thought Jenny Connor would be killed.
Following their bonding over their grief tonight, Peter Barlow (played by Chris Gascoyne) of Coronation Street and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) may be about to form an unlikely alliance.

In the scenes that aired tonight, Sam Robertson’s character Adam Barlow brought Peter to the police station.

DS Swain (Vicky Myers) was determined to prove Peter’s guilt of murder and was still tying up loose ends regarding the passing of Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).

But when she told Peter that they were going to end the investigation because they were satisfied he had knocked Stephen down due to concerns for Jenny’s life, things took a turn for the worse.

“As we explained at the flat, new information regarding Stephen Reid’s death has surfaced,” DS Swain stated. We have good reason to think that he had no intention of hurting Ms. Connor.

“At the time of the incident, you had no idea what had happened between the deceased and Ms Connor?”

Peter clarified: “How could I have done that? I wish I had known at the time because it happened so quickly when I was in the car and turned the corner.”

Later, DS Swain disclosed: “We have chosen not to move forward after taking into account the CCTV, forensics, witness statements, and other factors.

“We wanted to make sure you couldn’t have known Mr. Reid wasn’t going to hurt Ms. Connor,” they said.

“As far as we are concerned you were purely motivated by the desire to protect her from possible lethal harm.”

Although Peter was happy that he would not be serving time in prison, he was still unable to comprehend why he had killed Stephen when he had no intention of hurting Jenny Connor (Sally-Ann Matthews).

A little later, Toyah, sitting by himself in the precinct, saw him light up a cigarette and forced him to put it out by sitting down next to him.

Peter opened up about his feelings, saying, “I did do something wrong, I killed someone.” It is not easy to live with, but I did, and I am accountable for his death.”

“Welcome to the club, it might not be exactly the same but you know I was driving and he died,” Toyah said, making reference to her late husband Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) in her response.

“I had mental instability for quite some time. I continued tormenting myself while reflecting on my previous thoughts and wondering, “Why did I do what I did?”

Our minds can simply go into overdrive at times. However, you only caught a glimpse of Jenny and Stephen, and it appeared as though he was going to harm her.

“Peter, you are stuck with what you know; you cannot go back. You must learn to live with what you did, even though I realize it is an easy thing to say.

Toyah offered to give Peter a lift as he thanked her for her comfort and disclosed that he was attending an AA meeting to address his alcoholism.

Could Toyah turn into Peter’s shoulder to weep on? Will Carla start to feel anxious about their recent friendship?
